What is the difference between sunni and wahabi

They also do not believe in intercession and mysticism. They are known to be a group of fundamentalists. They do not migrate and reside in any other country around the world. Their only belief is visiting the shrines and tombs of the saints and follow the words of their sheikh. In religions or within a community, it is not necessary to follow only one type of rules or one person. When differences occur the existing group is divided into further sects. This is what happened between the Sunnis and the Wahabis.

The Sunnis are the true followers of Mohammad Prophet and his Sunnahs. Therefore they got the name Sunnis. They are moderates and believe in wearing charms and performing rituals. They believe in equal rights for the women as well. The Wahabis are called fundamentalists and follow orthodox Islam. They do not believe in intercession and mysticism like the Sunnis. Initially, they were also a part of the Sunnis but under the guidance of Mohammad ibne Abdul Wahab, they separated.

Sunni believes in mysticism and intercession while Wahabi terms these wrongful innovations in Islam. Most of the Sunni observe the Prophet of Muhammad, Sufi festivals, and other Islamic events while Wahabis are against all these. Wahabi tries to live as close to Muhammad as possible while Sunni follows almost all those who according to them are on right path. The concept of Jihad is strong in Wahabi as compared to the Sunni.

Wahabis are more conservative as compared to the Sunnis. According to Sunnis, Allah God does not resemble anything. He is free from the body, etc. He also exists without a place while Wahabis are against all these beliefs and also believe Allah is sitting on Arsh, above skies. Sunnis continuously visit the tombs or shrines of Prophet Muhammad and Islamic saints and consider it is acceptable and blessed.

Up to some extent, Wahabism is the branch of Sunnism while Sunnism is an independent sect like Shia. Sunni Muslims are generally perceived as moderate, who believe in the equality of women and treat members of other sects with a lot of respect.

Wahabis, on the other hand, are believed to be fundamentalists who follow a very orthodox version of Islam. They are said to be intolerant towards other sects such as Shias and are very strict in social and cultural matters, especially the treatment of women.

It is believed that they do not allow their women to work alongside men and also do not allow them to even drive a car. Sunni Muslims believe that Prophet Muhammad is still present in this world despite his death and often address him while praying to God, i.

Allah, whereas Wahabi believe that the soul of Prophet Muhammad has departed from this world and should not be used as an intermediary while praying to God. They strongly object to the use of pious individuals, either dead or alive, as middle-men while asking God for something. Sunni Muslims believe in mysticism and intercession, whereas Wahabi Muslims do not believe in such things.
