Laos how many days

I always use Booking. Vientiane — NT Hostel, which I can highly recommend. It was very clean and in a good location. Vang Vieng — Chillao Hostel is located on the main street, very close to everything. It has a pool and clean dormitory or double rooms. So maybe just go out, to walk around and grab something to eat nearby and get some rest for your busy itinerary ahead. Vientiane is the most chilled capital in all of South East Asia.

Three days will be more than enough to explore all its main parts. Pha That Luang — is a gold-covered large Buddhist stupa in the center of the city. It features over 10, Buddha sculptures of varying sizes and styles. Wat Si Muang — another very beautiful Buddhist Temple built in worth visiting.

Patuxay Monument — is a war monument in the center of Vientiane. Built between and The Patuxai was dedicated to those who fought in the struggle for independence from France. You can even climb to the top to enjoy the view. As I already mentioned the best way to get your tickets in too book them online on 12go. Booking it from your accommodation means that the van will come to take you from there, so it has its advantages.

The ride will take around 4 hours. Vang Vieng is a stunning small town surrounded by green karst mountains and stunning views.

This town is tops for loads of awesome day trips, viewpoints and tours to take in the natural beauty of Laos. It a place where you can just chill, immerse yourself into nature and just relax. The beauty of this small gem is unreal. There are 4 Blue lagoons that you can visit but I recommend the one with the cave because the water here is very blue even in the summer.

Vang Vieng was also made very popular by tubing. It was a huge party thing, in which party goers used to go down the river in a tube. The scene has died down now because many bars were shut down after several fatal accidents. So, now I actually recommend doing it! Phousi mountain — climb up this mountain in the city to enjoy a stunning view from the top.

Kuang Si Waterfall — it was probably the best waterfall that I visited in Laos. Another thing that you can do here is to watch the morning alms-giving ceremony from afar. So respect that and watch it silently from a distance. I had them every single night. They are made out of flour, coconut milk and sugar — but they are so amazing!! On your arrival in Luang Prabang, head straight to the peninsula to see some of its 33 wats temples , wander the riverside, stop at cafes, and marvel as the sun sets over the mellow Mekong.

In the evening, enjoy a stroll through the Handicraft Night Market , where Laos specialities, such as handmade quilt covers and silk, can be picked up for a steal. Take a dawn yoga class with Luang Prabang Yoga before breakfast at Le Banneton for the best croissants in the city. Take a dip in cool menthol-green pools set amongst verdant jungle at the base of the cascade. On your way in, don't miss the Kuang Si Bear Rescue Centre, a sanctuary for Asiatic Moon bears that have been rescued from the illegal pet trade.

In the evening, head to the river and watch the sun go down with a Beerlao in hand. In the evening, take yourself off to the intimate Garavek theatre for a traditional hour of storytelling and Lao mythology accompanied by music, before finishing the night with a cocktail at bohemian Icon Klub. Organise a tour for the next day taking in all three main Plain of Jars sites the final two have more picturesque settings; the first is the largest. Head into central Laos and visit the inexplicable Plain of Jars.

The capital city, Vientiane, shows modern, bustling Laos side by side with monuments both old and new. Immerse yourself in history, culture and stunning scenery. After transferring you from the airport to your hotel we'll take you on an introductory tour of Luang Prabang, time permitting, to visit Wat Visunalat, Wat Aham and perhaps walk up Phousi Mountain for a panoramic sunset view of the city and surrounding mountains. We'll finish the day with a trip to the colorful Night Market.

After breakfast we'll enjoy a short, guided tour to see the city's oldest temples of Wat Sene and Wat Xieng Thong, both of which represent the classical temple architecture of Luang Prabang. Then we'll board a cruise up the Mekong River to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves, which are crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes. Along the way we'll stop at the village of Ban Xanghai, where you can see the locals distilling rice into local Lao Lao wine and whiskey.

After returning we'll take a short drive to Ban Xang Khong and Ban Xienglek, well known for its hand-made traditional Saa paper. Wake early and you may participate in the daily morning ritual of Alms-giving. After breakfast we'll stroll through the Phousi Market where you see many local products such as dried buffalo skin, local tea and salt among the chickens, vegetables and hill-tribe weavings. On the way we make some stops to visit local villages. At the waterfalls you can swim in the pools or stroll along the forest paths.

We'll return to Luang Prabang by late afternoon. Trekking time is approximately 3 hours, easy to medium. When we went tubing, there were tonnes of tourists out kayaking who had possibly never been in a kayak in their lives … with ensuing chaos and collisions on the water! Most of the restaurants in Vang Vieng congregate around the main town area and the riverfront.

The other side of the river west is also dotted with local bars where you can relax in little wooden booths with cushions on the river edge. Great for an afternoon of drinking, reading and chilling, but eat at your own risk: quite possibility the spiciest food I have ever eaten!

Bearlin Bungalows and Lao Valhalla both have good offerings. Luang Prabang — Days. Views of Luang Prabang from Mount Phousi. Luang Prabang is the culture capital of Laos, with a picturesque French colonial old town, intricate temples, foodie culture and beautiful surrounding jungle. Luang Prabang has an airport with flights to and from international destinations including Singapore and Bangkok and domestic destinations including Vientiane.

While the road is only km, the drive takes anywhere between hours, depending on your transportation. After forking out for a private van transfer from Vientiane to Vang Vieng, we decided to save some pennies on the next leg with a group van transfer. How different could it be?! For my savings, I was expecting maybe a slightly older model van and seating at full capacity. Ahhm, I was just a little bit wrong. Expect a puttery old clanger, regular stops at random locales to pick up even more guests, a VERY tight squeeze, and questionable driving ability.

Check out our ride below. Yup, just when you thought the van was full, those are pull down chairs in the aisle! Reminder to self: private transfers are usually worth the money. The not-so-glam side of travelling. Take water and snacks for survival. Think characater building thoughts. Luang Prabang has the biggest range of accommmodation in Laos, with plenty of choices in the Old Quarter, along the river, and on the outskirts of the city.

Expect to pay more in Luang Prabang than elsewhere in Laos. Plus my absolute favourite style of accommodation is colonial boutique, and Luang Prabang has that in droves! My choices of hotels in Luang Prabang for next time are:. Just across the river, check out My Dream Boutique Resort. As you might expect, luxury here costs a lot more and is of higher standard than luxury in Vientiane or Vang Vieng. Oh well, all the more reason to return!

They look so gorgeous! Good news! The best Luang Prabang attractions are:. We were a bit templed out from the rest of our travels in South East Asia , so stuck to admiring the wats from the outside. The walk is steep but short, and is doable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness and no mobility issues due to the number of stairs.

The most popular time to visit Mount Phousi is sunrise or sunset. Kuang Si is also home to a Bear Rescue Centre, with black asiatic bears rescued from pretty awful circumstances.

Kuang Si Falls is around 30km south-west of Luang Prabang, so most sensible people take a motorbike, tuk tuk or shared van. Not us though! Nope, bouyed by my recent attempts at cycling around Vang Vieng, I decided to bike the rather challenging hilly route to Kuang Si Waterfall, and take a relaxing return boat down the river. While I was hating on life at the time, it was pretty satisfying to reach the falls and take a refreshing dip. I needed at least a couple of days to recover after biking to Kuang Si, so we gave Tad Sae a miss.

The bridge is rebuilt each year after being washed away during the wet season. Alternatively, pop down to the river front in the Old Quarter and take a sunset cruise or a boat ride to Pak Ou Caves. Biking: Like most of Laos, Luang Prabang is a great spot for exploring on your wheels. As well as the Old Quarter, we loved cycling around the residential area on the outskirts of the old town and the east side of Nam Khan River.

Luang Prabang has hands down the best food we had in Laos, and is the only place we really ate out for the experience. My favs were:. Tamarind : I highly recommend Tamarind if you want to splash out one night on a delicious Laotian degustation dinner.
